The purpose of the Fire Retardant Plywood was to stop the spread of fire from one townhouse rooftop to another.

FRT plywood has been found to prematurely deteriorate due to insufficient quality control at the treatment plants, which manufactured FRT plywood. If FRT Plywood turns a coffee or darker color, it may be delaminating/deteriorating. This causes the plywood to sag and will significantly reduce the plywood's structural integrity, especially important in states where snow is likely to accumulate on the rooftop. It is not recommended that you walk on a roof with Fire Retardant Plywood until you have determined that it is structurally adequate.
